If you visit Mai Khao Beach around the end of “Low Season” in October you won’t fail to notice the abundance of Long Tail Boats fishing for Krill in the Andaman Sea in front of Seaside Cottages,
They can easily be identified by the nets which are hung between a pair of long bamboo poles.
These nets are lowered by hand in front of the boat and used to scoop up as many of the small shrimps as possible.

The catch is taken back to shore and used to make “Shrimp Paste” for use in many local Thai dishes and is the hidden ingredient in most Thai curry pastes.
